The Haunted Secrets of The Brain

Thursday, October 21st at 7 pm

Join us for a spooky night of science-themed trivia, where you’ll be tested on your knowledge on myths versus facts, neuroscience history, science fiction, and the mysteries of the brain. ALL are welcome, please bring family and friends and dress up in a costume for the chance to win best dressed, along with prizes for the top three winning teams.

This is the fifth year the GSU Neuroscience PhD students have hosted trivia at Red’s. Their mission? To collaborate with the community, translating neuroscience research into relevant service and policy efforts. We love ‘em! Come support ‘em!

To play, they are only asking for a donation: $5 to the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN) at GSU OR bring 2 unopened supplies items for donation. If donating prior to the event, please take a screenshot of your confirmation to show us at check-in.

We'll have our food menu available, with the best hot dogs in town, and have over 200 types of beer, wine, cider, mead, hard kombucha & seltzer and non-alcoholic options for everyone.

Free parking is available in the Grant Park Clinic lot, located immediately to the right (south) of Red’s. There is also a gravel lot directly behind the clinic/church that our guests are welcome to use. Additional parking is available in front of Red’s or along Benteen Way, which is about a 0.1 mile walk to the left (north) of Red’s. Please do not park in front of Iglesia Pentecostal El Tabernaculo de Restauracion or across the street on Warmbreeze Road. Cars parked in those areas may be towed.

Love your pup? Dogs are not allowed inside but are welcome in the outdoor beer garden. There is direct access to the beer garden along the south side of our building. Follow the concrete path through the bamboo forest.

Simply Weird Film Fest

NEW THIS YEAR: TWO DAYS OF WEIRD!

Doors, drinks food 5:30 pm
Films run 6 pm - 9:30 pm
Buy your tickets here!

Our longtime regular, Sean is back with the 6th Simply Weird Film Fest! Tickets are only $10, which is a freaking steal for the amount of weird you’ll be digesting.

Expect about 15 shorts that are equal parts quirky, cosmic, and downright unhinged. Last year we voyaged through multi-dimensional cosmic realms, squared off against menacing krabs in space, hung out with a neighborly ghoul, glitched back into the world of The Sims, and even watched a puppet take the stand in the bizarre murder trial of a politician. Buckle up. Who knows what’s going on this year.

The Golden Weird Wiener Award
Forged in the neon fires of absurdity and blessed by the ghost of a 1950s hot dog vendor, this sacred sausage is bestowed upon the film that warps reality and bends audience brains into ecstatic spaghetti. The people will vote. The weird shall rise. And one filmmaker will take home the gloriously grotesque, possibly inter-dimensional Golden Weird Wiener. Worship it. Fear it. Win it.

Herman the Horrible: The Myths, the Murders, and the Mind of HH Holmes

Beyond the dazzling lights and grand facades of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, hidden from the millions who rode the Ferris Wheel, and tasted Cracker Jack for the first time, one man welcomed people to his own home, too. But some of those who visited the young doctor found themselves trapped behind hidden doors and in labyrinthine corridors of a building designed for destruction. For over a hundred and thirty years, the true crime world has been captivated and chilled by the monstrous deeds of America’s first notorious serial killer. Many know the legends of the "Murder Castle," the details as told to us for more than a century... but what don’t we know? And how much of what we think we know is actually correct? Who was the real Herman Webster Mudgett?

Join us for a unique true crime experience, brought to you as only Sarah Cailean can. We’ll peel back the sensationalized myths of the Gilded Age, examine Holmes' timeline and psychological profile through the eyes of an investigator and profiler, and look closely at the victims whose stories were swallowed by the macabre headlines of history.

About Sarah Cailean

Sarah Cailean is a former police officer and detective who’s now an independent consultant for cold case homicides and disappearances, specializing in cases involving serial predators. Sarah is the creator and host of a series of hit podcasts from Investigation Discovery, Why Can’t We Talk About Amanda’s Mom?, Who Killed Jennifer Judd?, and Who Took Misty Copsey? She has served as a crime correspondent for HLN and NewsNation’s Cuomo, and contributes to numerous true crime podcasts and documentaries. In addition to her current work as a special investigator with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and the Gainesville Police Department, Sarah hosts a series of true crime lecture events all over the country.

Love Bluegrass?

Bring an instrument to join or come for a night of some fun tunes. We’ll plan to be outside as long as the weather holds up - but if it’s too chilly or damp, the music moves inside and the dining room gets a little twangy, just like we like it. Always rain or shine!

Free to attend and/or play! Open to all levels of players. For any questions, email John at jamband@usa.com

Sarah Cailean's True Crime: Tales in the Key of Swift

doors drinks food 6 pm
show starts at 7 pm

Buy your tickets here, $17/each

...Ready For It?

Nice to meet you, where you been? We could show you incredible things... namely some twisting, turning, and shocking cases, as told to you by an actual profiler and homicide investigator -- who just so happens to be a devoted Swifite.

If you’re the type of person who knows that nothing good starts in a getaway car,and you’ve got a list of names in red, underlined, this is your true crime era. We are calling all armchair detectives, masterminds, and mad women to join us for a night that trades friendship bracelets and forensic files.

We know you remember the details all too well, so you’ll get new angles and new analysis on some infamous cases, and learn all about some you’ve probably never heard of. Whether you’re intrigued by a nightmare dressed like a daydream, or you’re just planning to draw the cat eye sharp enough to kill, this event is tailored for you.

What to expect:

● Deep dives into cold cases that will have you asking, "Who’s afraid of little old me?"

● Trivia that tests if you can spot the illicit affairs and the lies.

● Themed drinks that will help you tolerate the champagne problems of the killers and con men.

Don't wait until midnights to secure your spot. It would be a cruel summer if you missed out on the most arrestingly fun night of the year. Bring your squad—because while we can't promise you'll find a London boy, we can promise a community that loves a mystery just as much as you do.

Long story short: It’s going to be a marvelous time. Grab your ticket, grab your passport and my hand—we’re going to solve it.

———-

Sarah is currently serving as a special investigator with the both the Mobile County (AL) Sheriff’s Office, and the Gainesville (FL) Police Department, leading the investigations into multiple cold case homicides. She is  also working with Big Swing Productions, Kyra Sedgwick’s production company, to develop a scripted series based on her life and investigations. A former police officer with a decade of service in federal and municipal law enforcement agencies, Sarah’s expertise is in the areas of serial predation (serial rape and serial homicide) and domestic violence. She is an investigative member of the Vidocq Society, the Cold Case Foundation, and the Super Sleuths case and research group co-founded by Sarah and the legendary Dr. Ann Burgess.
